While the existing handles are refillable - consumers typically throw them out and buy a whole new roller. Even worse, the black plastic handles aren’t recyclable.
Insight: most of the first prototypes were really large due to the size of the refill roll. In this next concept we explored using a telescoping cam mechanism to telescope the handle out of the center of the roller. This reduced the visual size of the roller, and the telescoping mechanism added a “delighter.”
First Round of Prototypes
The cover, branded “Pop-n-Lock” rotates around the lint tape as the handle is pulled out. The mechanism was patented in 2018.
Packaging exploration with a mid-stage printed prototype. We wanted to be sure the consumer was able interact with the handle mechanism at shelf.
User testing on final molded concepts and packaging designs.
Launching with an initial quantity of 500k to serve as a heat check of the concept while monitoring a increase in refill sales.
