This was my first project at Matador - redesigning the shell of the NanoDry towel cases. It was a pure form exercise, as it was an existing SKU and the functional features worked just fine.
The original towel shell - fully curvature continuous and blobular.
INITIAL FORM DEVELOPMENT
I started with a spectrum of forms ranging from blocky to soft and surfaced. We liked the soft structure of the surfaced clamshell with a racetrack around the perimeter, and used it as a jumping off point. From there we refined the form to optimize fit for the folded towel, played with several different opening shapes, and added a raised rib that includes a carabiner attachment point for hanging.
FINAL DESIGN
We got to play with CMF here - the speckled case was a fun one.
